Jindal Panther Cement commissions 1.5 MTPA grinding unit in Angul, paving the way for low-CO2 cement production

New Delhi, October 22, 2024 (TBB Bureau):  Jindal Panther Cement (JPC), a prominent entity within the Jindal Group, on Tuesday announced the commissioning of its first cement grinding unit in Angul, Odisha, with a capacity of 1.5 million tons per annum (MTPA). This state-of-the-art facility is poised to play a critical role in the company’s ambitious decarbonisation strategy, operating with the industry’s lowest clinker factor.

The Angul Grinding Unit is designed to utilize approximately 1 MTPA of blast furnace slag sourced from the nearby JSPL’s Angul integrated steel plant. This innovative approach not only repurposes industrial by-products but also significantly reduces carbon emissions associated with cement production. By aligning its operations with JSPL’s broader sustainability objectives, JPC aims to emerge as a leader in low-carbon cement manufacturing across Central and Eastern India.

JPC’s commitment to sustainability is further reflected in its strategy to produce high-quality Portland Slag and Composite Cement. This initiative is expected to provide key markets in the region with eco-friendly construction materials, supporting the growing demand for sustainable infrastructure solutions. The company’s efforts underscore the importance of integrating environmental stewardship with industrial development.

To bolster its market presence, JPC is planning a substantial expansion of its production capacity, targeting an increase to 7 MTPA across its Angul and Raigarh units. This growth will be underpinned by an investment of INR 2160 crore, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to delivering sustainable building materials that cater to the region’s infrastructure needs.

In an innovative move to simplify the procurement process for homebuilders, JPC will jointly market its cement alongside JSPL’s Rebar through a unified distribution system. This collaboration, operating under the well-established ‘Jindal Panther’ brand, aims to position JPC as Eastern India’s first one-stop shop for individual housebuilders (IHBs). The integrated offering will provide customers with quality materials, convenience, and competitive pricing, ultimately enhancing the overall construction experience.

Rohit Vohra, CEO of JPC, expressed enthusiasm about the new facility, stating, “The commissioning of our Angul Grinding Unit marks a significant step in our journey towards a sustainable future. Our low-carbon cement and innovative distribution model position us uniquely to support Eastern India’s infrastructure growth while contributing to a greener planet.”
