In a groundbreaking initiative toward eco-mobility in India, Jindal Stainless, the nation’s premier stainless steel manufacturer, is joining forces with JBM Auto Ltd., a leading electric bus manufacturer, to produce over 500 energy-efficient and lightweight stainless steel electric buses.
Jindal Stainless will provide JT Tubes, crafted from low-carbon, chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel, designated as N7 in Bureau of Indian Standards specification 6911. These tubes offer triple the strength of carbon steel commonly used in bus fabrication. This partnership signifies a significant shift for JBM Auto, moving from carbon steel to stainless steel for their electric buses, ensuring lighter vehicles, improved performance, and enhanced durability.
Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, expressed enthusiasm about shaping the future of sustainable mobility in India. He highlighted the environmental advantages of lighter vehicles and the cost-effectiveness of corrosion-resistant stainless steel throughout the buses’ lifecycle.
Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of JBM Auto Ltd., emphasized their dedication to innovation and clean mobility, with a focus on driving electric vehicle adoption and establishing a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem.
Moreover, JBM Auto is redirecting its export orders for electric buses to energy-efficient stainless steel buses. Jindal Stainless’ domestic service arm, Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited (JSSL), will supply the material, ensuring customization and value addition. The JT Tubes will be incorporated into the buses’ superstructure, tailored for operations in Telangana to combat its corrosive environment.
