ANGUL/BARBIL, JANUARY 23, 2025

Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) celebrated Flag Day at its Angul plant with immense pride and patriotic fervor, marking 21 years since the historic Supreme Court ruling that affirmed every Indian citizen’s right to fly the national flag with dignity every day of the year.

The occasion honors the landmark January 23, 2004, verdict — a result of a decade-long legal battle led by Naveen Jindal, President of the Flag Foundation of India and Member of Parliament for Kurukshetra. This ruling recognized the right to display the Tiranga as a fundamental right under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution, emphasizing its role as a powerful symbol of unity, pride, and commitment to the nation.

The Flag Foundation of India, established by Naveen Jindal and Shallu Jindal, Chairperson of the Jindal Foundation, continues to champion the Tiranga’s legacy through monumental flag installations, awareness campaigns, and patriotic events. So far, 163 monumental flags have been installed across India, including eight in Odisha.

At the Angul plant, the celebrations were highlighted by the ceremonial hoisting of a 207-foot-high Tiranga, led by Pankaj Malhan, Executive Director & Location Head, and Damodar Mittal, Executive Director Projects, alongside department heads. The event brought together employees and local schoolchildren, who paid tribute to the national flag’s enduring legacy.

To deepen the connection with the Tiranga, a 15-minute video narrating its journey and significance was screened in conference halls across departments. Adding to the enthusiasm, an online quiz engaged participants, with winners receiving special prizes. A mandatory online signature campaign further united employees in collective pride and patriotism.

In New Delhi, Naveen Jindal inaugurated a special exhibition at Connaught Place, showcasing India’s largest photographic tribute to the Tiranga. Curated by Vijay S. Jodha and recognized by the Limca Book of Records, the exhibition celebrates India’s diversity and creativity as the nation approaches 75 years of its Constitution in 2025.

Encouraging citizens to embrace the motto, “Har Ghar Tiranga – Har Din Tiranga,” Jindal highlighted the Tiranga’s ability to inspire dedication to nation-building and unity in diversity.

The Flag Day festivities extended across JSP’s Barbil, Kasia, and Tensa units, where employees and business associates joined the celebrations. At Barbil, the National Flag was hoisted by Unit Head Purushotham M.D., while at Kasia and Tensa, the flag was unfurled by Pramod Patra, Head of Mines.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold the values represented by the Tiranga, reaffirming JSP’s commitment to fostering a spirit of patriotism and unity.
