In a significant step towards promoting road safety, Jindal Steel and Power (JSP), in partnership with the Odisha Government, organized a two-day “Eye Check-Up and First Aid Training” camp at the Transport Nagar Phase-2 truck parking area within the JSP campus. This initiative, part of the ongoing Road Safety Week, underscores JSP’s dedication to fostering safer transportation through health and safety interventions for truck drivers.
The camp was inaugurated by Nikhil Pattnaik, Road Transport Officer of Angul district, alongside JSP officials and Logistics department staff. The event drew a remarkable response, offering free eye examinations to nearly 500 drivers, who also received complimentary spectacles to correct their vision.
This apart, the camp provided vital First Aid training, equipping drivers with the essential skills to handle emergencies, thereby potentially saving lives. The program saw participation from around 1,000 drivers and local transport representatives, reflecting the community’s robust engagement with JSP’s safety and welfare initiatives.
As part of its “Dristhi” programme, JSP has been a pioneer in addressing the vision health needs of truck drivers. To date, the initiative has delivered free medical care to 12,028 drivers, with 4,987 pairs of spectacles distributed at the Angul location alone. This ongoing effort highlights JSP’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of the transport community and its role in ensuring safer roads across the region.
JSP’s proactive measures during Road Safety Week demonstrate its integral role in community welfare and its strategic focus on enhancing the health and safety standards of drivers, pivotal to the region’s transport infrastructure.
