Angul, June 5, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The Angul Unit of Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) celebrated World Environment Day 2024 with fervor and dedication, aligning with this year’s theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”

The day began with the inauguration of the “Run for Environment” mini-marathon by Angul Location Head, Pankaj Malhan. He was joined by department heads, including SMS Head Atul Dubey, Yoga Guru Swami Satyabindu Saraswati, employees with their families, and community members. Following the marathon, around 600 saplings were planted, symbolizing a collective commitment to environmental stewardship.

In his address, Pankaj Malhan emphasized the company’s unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability. Yoga Guru Swami Satyabindu added a unique perspective with a motivational speech advocating for eco-friendly practices, enriching the event’s discourse.

The festivities aimed to raise awareness and inspire action towards sustainable land management practices, highlighting individual responsibility for environmental conservation.

To engage the younger demographic, a children’s drawing competition was organized across three age categories, fostering creativity in portraying themes related to land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. The competition yielded a vibrant array of thought-provoking artworks, showcasing youthful perspectives on environmental issues.

Additionally, a ladies’ quiz and essay competition were held for the spouses of employees, promoting community involvement and a shared sense of accountability for environmental preservation.

For employees, an online quiz tested their knowledge of environmental challenges and sustainable practices, enhancing awareness and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

The event culminated in the distribution of prizes to winners across various competitions, acknowledging their contributions and encouraging continued engagement with environmental concerns. Furthermore, through the JSP Foundation, the company’s social arm, over 200 Eco Clubs have been established in Angul’s schools to cultivate environmental consciousness among future generations. An integrated watershed program is also underway to mitigate soil erosion and bolster groundwater recharge across a 5,000-acre catchment area.

JSP’s World Environment Day celebrations in Angul showcased a robust commitment to environmental sustainability through diverse and inclusive activities, fostering a strong community spirit and emphasizing the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
