JSP’s Mission Zero Hunger and Livelihood Programme honoured with CSR Times Award

BHUBANESWAR, AUGUST 24, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): Leading steelmaker Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) has received recognition for its exemplary corporate social responsibility efforts by winning the CSR Times Award in two distinct categories. The awards were presented by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant during a ceremony held in Panjim, Goa. The event was attended by notable figures including Dr. Gururaj, Principal Advisor of the Goa CSR Authority, Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, former Director General of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, and the Editor of CSR Times, among other industry leaders.

The CSR Times Award acknowledges JSP’s outstanding contributions to empowering rural communities through sustainable livelihood programs and combating hunger among vulnerable populations through targeted interventions. The JSP Foundation, the company’s social arm, has been actively implementing integrated social development initiatives that underscore its commitment to social responsibility and sustainable progress.

Commenting upon the achievement, JSP Foundation Chairperson and a recipient of the CSR Times Lifetime Achievement Award, Shallu Jindal said, “We are deeply honoured to receive the CSR Times Award in two categories. This recognition is a testament to our steadfast commitment to eradicating hunger in India and empowering communities with sustainable livelihood opportunities. The CSR Times Award highlights JSP’s dedicated efforts in improving livelihood options through various sustainable initiatives, including the Jan Jeevika Kendra(s), a hub-and-spoke model promoting rural livelihoods, and empowering farming community women through self-help groups (SHGs). The Mission Zero Hunger initiative, aimed at eradicating hunger in vulnerable regions beyond JSP’s business operations, is one of the foundation’s flagship programs.

Under the leadership of Chairperson Shallu Jindal, the JSP Foundation is committed to achieving a Hunger-Free India, a vision championed by Naveen Jindal, the three-time Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra. The Foundation’s Mission Zero Hunger targets the underprivileged and needy sections of the country.

The company’s Group Head of CSR emphasized how their program aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and discussed their action plans related to these goals and the critical assessment domains.

This award marks a significant milestone for JSP, reinforcing the company’s leadership in corporate social responsibility. JSP remains committed to driving positive change through strategic initiatives that address pressing social issues.
