Legal education must continuously evolve to address emerging challenges in technology, governance, and human rights, said Odisha’s Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan. Speaking at a seminar organized by the School of Law at Centurion University, he lauded the institution’s role in shaping future legal professionals by fostering critical thinking and research-driven learning.
The seminar, titled ‘Emerging Trends in Legal Studies and Practices,’ was held at Centurion University’s Bhubaneswar campus and brought together legal scholars, practitioners, and students to explore the shifting landscape of law in the digital era.
Inaugurating the event, Centurion University Vice Chancellor Prof. Supriya Pattanayak emphasized the need for legal education to keep pace with technological advancements and socio-economic changes. The seminar featured distinguished guests, including former Odisha Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik and eminent legal experts who shared their insights on contemporary legal challenges.
The discussions were further enriched by virtual addresses from Justice M.S. Raman of the Orissa High Court and Prof. (Dr.) Kamal Jeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of Madhusudan Law University.
The valedictory session featured Law Minister Harichandan alongside Senior Advocate Bibhu Prasad Tripathy of the Orissa High Court. Their collective insights underscored the importance of adapting legal frameworks to new-age challenges such as cyber law, artificial intelligence in legal practice, alternative dispute resolution, and environmental litigation.
Dr. Pallab Das, Dean of the School of Law, highlighted the significance of addressing key legal issues in the modern era. Expert-led technical sessions delved into topics such as Judiciary 2.0, data privacy regulations, and corporate social responsibility, fostering dynamic exchanges among participants.
A key highlight of the seminar was the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Kusal Biswas, Founder of Speak for Animals, in recognition of his relentless legal activism against animal cruelty.
With nearly 200 participants, including law students and professionals, the seminar served as a vibrant platform for legal discourse and academic collaboration. The School of Law at Centurion University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a research-driven legal ecosystem through such impactful initiatives.
