Lili Das and Prince Kumar triumph at Coal India Bhubaneswar Half Marathon

Lili Das from West Bengal and Prince Kumar from Uttar Pradesh emerged victorious in the overall female and male categories of the prestigious Coal India Bhubaneswar Half Marathon, org Coal India Bhubaneswar Half Marathon anized by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) to mark 50 years of Coal India Limited (CIL).

Held at the iconic Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday, the marathon witnessed an overwhelming participation of over 5,600 runners from across the country, ranging from professional athletes to fitness enthusiasts and citizens of all ages. With a total prize pool of ₹45.34 lakh, the event showcased the true spirit of competition, fitness, and camaraderie.

Gracing the occasion were distinguished dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Pravati Parida, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, and several Members of Parliament and MLAs. Manoj Ahuja, Chief Secretary of Odisha, and PM Prasad, Chairman of Coal India were also present, along with Uday Anant Kaole, CMD MCL, Functional Directors, and senior officials from CIL and MCL.

Adding to the excitement, Olympian and ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal, who served as the event ambassador, inspired the participants with her words on the significance of fitness and perseverance in sports and life.

The marathon featured multiple categories, including the 21km Half Marathon, 10km Run, 5km Run, and a 500m Fun Run, allowing seasoned runners and amateurs alike to take part in the momentous occasion. Beyond the competition, many participants joined the event to honor Coal India’s five decades of remarkable contributions to India’s energy security.

During the grand felicitation ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Saina Nehwal, along with other dignitaries, presented the awards to winners across various categories, applauding their dedication and sporting spirit.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Government of Odisha, was a resounding success, reinforcing Coal India and MCL’s commitment to nation-building while fostering a culture of fitness and well-being.
