Kolkata, October 4, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Linde India today announced the commissioning of a state-of-the-art 250 metric tonnes per day air separation unit (ASU) at Ludhiana, Punjab. The new facility, which is the company’s second merchant plant in northern India, will significantly boost Linde’s capacity to supply critical gases, including medical and industrial oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, to a wide array of industries.
Strategically located inside the Hi-Tech Cycle Valley Park at Dhanansu, Ludhiana, the new plant more than doubles Linde India’s merchant capacity in the region, complementing the company’s existing facility in Selaqui, Uttarakhand. The ASU is set to play a key role in supporting demand from sectors such as healthcare, semiconductor, steel, metals, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and manufacturing, among others. A dedicated gas pipeline network will enable Linde to further serve neighboring industries.
Abhijit Banerjee, Managing Director of Linde India, emphasized the critical importance of industrial gases in supporting the country’s expanding economy:
“Industrial gases play a vital role across almost every sector in India. As India’s economy continues to expand and diversify, we are proud to support traditional end markets, such as metals, manufacturing, and mining, along with new growth segments like electronics, space research, defense, healthcare, and solar energy. Linde’s products, technology, and people are helping to make our customers more productive and sustainable.”
The Ludhiana facility, Banerjee noted, reflects Linde India’s commitment to strengthening its presence in high-growth regions. The investment was well-supported by the Government of Punjab’s “Invest Punjab” initiative, which aims to attract and foster industrial development in the state.
“This plant is another step towards making the region self-reliant for industrial gases,” added Banerjee. “Punjab is the epicenter for multiple sectors, and this investment aligns with our strategy to consolidate our network in high-growth areas.”
