Maruti Suzuki India reaches 1 crore production milestone at Manesar facility

New Delhi, October 17, 2024 (TBB Bureau):  Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has achieved a significant milestone, crossing the 1 crore cumulative production mark at its Manesar facility in Haryana. The company announced on Thursday that this accomplishment makes the Manesar plant the fastest among Suzuki’s global manufacturing units to achieve this feat, doing so in just 18 years.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, expressed gratitude, stating, “As we reach this important landmark, I thank our customers for placing their trust in us. I also extend my thanks to our employees, business associates, and the Government of India for their continued support.”

The Manesar facility, which spans 600 acres, commenced operations in October 2006 and manufactures popular models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Ciaz, Dzire, Wagon R, S-Presso, and Celerio. These models are sold domestically and exported to regions like Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and neighboring Asian countries. Notably, the Baleno, the first Maruti Suzuki car exported to Japan, was also produced at this facility.

Takeuchi highlighted the achievement as a testament to India’s manufacturing capabilities and reaffirmed Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. “Since inception, our focus on local manufacturing of components has enabled us to establish a vast supply chain in India. Through our large-scale manufacturing, we have provided direct and indirect employment to millions,” he said.

Maruti Suzuki’s total production capacity stands at approximately 2.35 million units per year. Since its inception, the company has produced over 3.11 crore vehicles, as of October 6, 2024.

In August, the automaker reported total vehicle sales of 184,727 units, an increase from 181,343 units in the same month last year. This included domestic sales of 148,061 units, 8,938 units sold to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and 27,728 units for export.

During the first six months of the current fiscal year (April-September 2024), Maruti Suzuki sold 1,063,418 vehicles, up from 1,050,085 units in the same period last year. Exports during this period rose to 148,276 units, compared to 132,542 units in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
