Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has once again demonstrated its industry leadership by achieving a record-breaking coal production and despatch in Financial Year 2024-25. The company produced an unprecedented 225.2 million tonnes (MT) of coal, marking an impressive 9 per cent growth over the previous fiscal year.
Reaffirming its commitment to national energy security, MCL also recorded its highest-ever coal despatch of 210.5 MT, reflecting a 6 per cent growth over FY 2023-24. The company significantly contributed to the power sector, increasing its coal supply from 150 MT in FY 2024 to 158 MT in FY 2025, registering a 5 per cent growth.
In another remarkable feat, MCL registered an extraordinary 22 per cent growth in overburden removal (OBR), achieving 338 million cubic meters (MCuM). This achievement strengthens the company’s capability to enhance coal production in the upcoming fiscal year.
Celebrating these milestones, Chairman-cum-Managing Director Shri Uday A. Kaole congratulated the officers, staff, employees of contracted companies, and all stakeholders for their invaluable contributions to this success.
Beyond its operational excellence, MCL remains dedicated to social responsibility, solidifying its position as the largest CSR spender in Odisha. The company invested around Rs 215 crore in FY’25 across various initiatives aimed at uplifting communities, particularly in the remote and peripheral areas of coalfields.
MCL continues to be the largest coal-producing company in India, with extensive mining operations spanning Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul districts of Odisha. With its steadfast focus on growth and sustainability, the company remains a pivotal player in India’s energy sector, setting new benchmarks year after year.
