NTPC Bongaigaon: A beacon of sustainable power and community engagement

Bongaigaon, July 27, 2024 (TBB Bureau): NTPC Bongaigaon, a leading power generation facility with an installed capacity of 750 MW, continues to stand out as a model for sustainable power production and active stakeholder involvement.

During a media interaction held on Friday, the senior management team of NTPC, headed by Akhilesh Singh, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon, shared key insights into the plant’s operational achievements and performance. Singh emphasized the station’s ongoing efforts to reduce pollution by implementing Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) technology. He also highlighted NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to environmental responsibility, noting that since 2006, the station has planted over 193,000 trees in and around the facility.

Reflecting its commitment to social responsibility, NTPC Bongaigaon has successfully conducted NTPC’s flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) program for three consecutive years. This initiative, which provides education, holistic growth, and life skills training to 40 girls annually, underscores the station’s dedication to empowering girls and fostering community development. During the media visit, journalists toured the GEM venue, interacted with the participants, and commended the community hall’s infrastructure.

Singh expressed his gratitude to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and district administration for their ongoing support of all initiatives. He also outlined various sustainable practices adopted by the station to enhance operational efficiency and promote community welfare.

At the media interaction, Paresh Mathur, Head of TS, provided insights into the operational and maintenance parameters and the origins of NTPC Bongaigaon. Onkar Nath, AGM (HR), highlighted the diverse HR and CSR initiatives and NTPC Bongaigaon’s efforts toward community development.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Induri S. Reddy, GM (O&M); Asutosh Biswas, GM (Operation); Roshan Dungdung; Madhurjya S. Lahkar, Sr. Manager (Corporate Communication); Abdul Aziz, Manager HR; and Aduity Thakuri, CSR Executive.
