NTPC Bongaigaon employees unite to provide flood relief to Kokrajhar villages

Bongaigaon, July 18, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a heartening show of solidarity and compassion, the employees of NTPC Bongaigaon united to support families devastated by floods in Kokrajhar’s Eastern Range, including Athiabari and the Dotma Revenue Circle. Relief and distribution camps were set up in local primary schools and bazaar areas to aid those in need across the forest villages of Nijwmguri, Gwjwnpuri, Aajarguri, Alaijhar, and Dwimuguri.

The dedicated efforts reached 170 families, benefiting a total of 706 individuals, including children and the elderly. The operation was carefully executed with the assistance of the CISF unit, ensuring that each affected household received essential supplies. The philanthropic spirit of NTPC employees was evident as they collectively donated approximately Rs. 85,000 to support the cause.

Akhilesh Singh, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon, praised the dedication of the NTPC Bongaigaon engineers and officially flagged off the relief convoy in the presence of GM Thangzom, Commandant, CISF; Onkar Nath, AGM (HR); and MS Kandari, Assistant Commandant, CISF.

What started as a simple WhatsApp message quickly grew into a powerful crowdfunding movement, bringing together NTPC Bongaigaon employees and colleagues from various NTPC stations. Key contributors such as Jawaid Hassan Malik, Sr. Manager (MTP); Paramdeep Singh, Senior Manager (Mechanical Maintenance); Umang Kumar Sarawagi, Manager (Fuel Management); TT Krishnakumar, Sr. Assistant Engineer (Ash Handling); and Pranjit Talukdar, Technician (Fuel Management), joined CISF personnel in distributing relief packets at the camps.

The initiative was further strengthened by the invaluable support of K Kaushik, Range Forest Officer, and the District Administration, who played a crucial role in coordinating the relief efforts. Based on data provided by the District Administration of Kokrajhar, the distributed relief materials included essential food items such as rice, lentils, soya nuggets, cooking oil, salt, turmeric, and biscuits, providing much-needed sustenance to the affected families.

This initiative highlights NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to community welfare and its proactive role in disaster response, serving as a powerful example of the impact of collective action and compassionate leadership.
