NTPC Bongaigaon’s EVOICE initiative empowers local youth with educational kits

Bongaigaon, August 26, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a significant stride towards enhancing the educational opportunities for local youth, NTPC Bongaigaon’s CSR division, in collaboration with the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club and its Employee Volunteering Services (EVOICE), distributed educational kits to 60 students from neighboring villages. These kits, designed to support both academic and physical development, included essential items such as books, sports shoes, raincoats, and stationery. Additionally, a whiteboard was donated to the Disha Classes center to further improve teaching quality.

The distribution event was attended by Akhilesh Singh, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon, along with key officials including Debabrata Kar, GM (O&M); Asutosh Biswas, GM (Operations); GM Thangzom, Commandant CISF; MS Kandari, Assistant Commandant CISF; Ashish Kumar, Deputy Commandant CISF; Onkar Nath, AGM (HR); Sangeeta Singh, President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club; Soumya Kar, Vice President of BSLC; and Jhumita Biswas, Senior Member of BSLC. EVOICE members, teachers, and HR-CSR representatives were also present.

In his address, Akhilesh Singh commended the dedication of the EVOICE volunteer teachers and praised the students for their perseverance, especially considering the distances they travel to attend classes. He encouraged the students to aim high and make their families and the nation proud. The students, in turn, expressed their gratitude to NTPC for providing free educational classes that have been instrumental in their preparation for competitive exams.

The Disha Classes initiative, a key component of NTPC Bongaigaon’s EVOICE program, provides free coaching to rural youth, with a focus on preparing for competitive exams for paramilitary and military services. The program, in collaboration with the CISF unit for physical training, has already helped more than 21 local youths secure positions in various paramilitary forces, including the Assam Police.

A highlight of the event was an inspiring address by Narkw Nazary, a former Disha Classes student who is now employed at NTPC. His success story serves as a powerful testament to the impact of the program and a source of motivation for current students.

Since its inception in 2019, the EVOICE team’s Disha Classes have been committed to the holistic development of local youth, equipping them with the skills and resources needed for future success. Through its ongoing partnership with CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon continues to demonstrate its dedication to community support, ensuring that local youth are well-prepared for competitive exams and promising careers.
