NTPC Coal Mining Ltd, a subsidiary of the government-owned power giant NTPC, has reached a significant milestone by surpassing the production of 100 million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal. This achievement, announced on February 25, 2024, marks a remarkable feat since the commencement of coal production at its first coal mine, Pakri Barwadih, on January 1, 2017.
NTPC Mining Ltd achieved the first 50 MMT of coal production in 1,995 days by June 19, 2022. Impressively, the subsequent 50 MMT of coal production was accomplished in less than one-third of that time, spanning just 617 days.
With a vision for the future, NML is aiming to achieve a coal production rate of 100 MMT per annum by the year 2030. Currently, NTPC Mining Ltd operates five captive coal mines: Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariatu, and Kerandari Coal Mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga Coal Mine in Odisha, and Talaipalli Coal Mine in Chhattisgarh.
To sustain and enhance its coal production, NTPC has implemented a comprehensive array of strategies and technologies. These initiatives encompass stringent safety protocols, enhanced mine planning, automation of equipment, continual workforce training, and the deployment of advanced monitoring and analysis systems.
