NTPC Coal Mining Headquarters celebrates 78th Independence Day

Ranchi, August 15, 2024 (TBB Bureau): NTPC Coal Mining Headquarters/NTPC Mining Limited (NML), Ranchi, celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor on Thursday. The Chief Guest, Animesh Jain, CEO (NML) & Regional Executive Director (Coal Mining), hoisted the tricolor flag and honoured the freedom fighters who contributed to India’s independence. Shri Jain highlighted the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative by the Government of India, part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ distributing Indian flags to employees to evoke a spirit of patriotism.

Reflecting on the nation’s journey, Jain emphasized the importance of energy independence and Energy Atmanirbharta. He shared recent achievements and future plans of NTPC, noting that coal currently accounts for about 70% of India’s electricity generation and 55% of its energy needs. NTPC and its subsidiary, NTPC Mining Limited (NML), are striving towards self-reliance in the energy sector, aiming for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ – a developed India.

NTPC, India’s largest power utility, reported significant growth and operational excellence. With an installed capacity of 76,134 MW, NTPC achieved its highest-ever group generation of 422 billion units (BUs) in FY 2024, a 6% increase. The company maintains a lead in Plant Load Factor (PLF), reaching 77.3% for its coal stations in FY 2024. NTPC is also transitioning towards cleaner energy, planning to have over 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 and expanding its total capacity to over 130 GW by then.

In FY 2023-24, NTPC made notable strides in mining, with coal production reaching 34.39 million metric tons (MMT), a year-on-year growth of 48.21%, and dispatch standing at 34.15 MMT, up by 55.50%. NTPC’s subsidiary NML is dedicated to achieving self-reliance in the coal sector with a vision of “Mining for Atmanirbharta, Fueling NTPC,” adopting advanced and clean coal technologies.

Jain expressed gratitude to the CMHQ Team, project teams, NTPC colleagues, the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Coal, other Government of India Ministries, and the State Governments of Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, along with all stakeholders and associates.

To recognize outstanding performance and contributions, Merit Awards and Medha Pratiyogita were presented to employees and their families.

The event was graced by Guest of Honour Rekha Jain, President of the Swayamsiddha Ladies Club, Rajnish Rastogi, CGM (HR), HODs, senior members of the Ladies Club, employees, and their families, making the celebration a grand success.
