Ranchi, November 7, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a celebration marked by pride and joy, NTPC Mining Limited (NML) Headquarters in Ranchi commemorated the 50th NTPC Foundation Day with enthusiasm and reverence. Chief Guest Animesh Jain, Chief Executive Officer of NML and Regional Executive Director (Coal Mining), unfurled the NTPC flag, accompanied by the resonant NTPC Geet, witnessed by a gathering of Heads of Departments, employees, and their families. Jain expressed heartfelt congratulations to the NTPC team for reaching this remarkable milestone of five decades in power generation.
Reflecting on NTPC’s journey, Jain shared, “Today is a moment of immense pride for all of us at NTPC. The fifty-year journey has been one of relentless dedication, hard work, and resilience. Since NTPC’s inception on November 7, 1975, we have overcome numerous challenges and capitalized on opportunities to emerge as a leader in the energy sector.”
He noted NTPC’s evolution from its first thermal power plant with a 200 MW unit commissioned in February 1983 at Singrauli to its current status as a 76+ GW powerhouse, illuminating one in every four bulbs across the nation. Over the years, NTPC has diversified its portfolio to include coal mining and renewable energy sources, aligning with global sustainability trends and innovating to enhance efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
“Today, NTPC stands as India’s largest power utility, with an installed capacity of 76,475.68 MW and an unprecedented generation of 422 Billion Units in FY 2024, marking a 6% growth. We lead the sector with a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 77.3% for our coal-based stations. As we look to the future, our focus on clean energy remains strong, with a goal of over 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032 and an expanded total capacity target of 130 GW,” Jain added.
Highlighting NTPC Mining Limited’s accomplishments, Jain emphasized its commitment to self-reliance with the motto, “Mining for आत्मनिर्भरता” (self-reliance). In FY 2023-24, NML achieved a 48% growth in coal production and a 55% increase in coal dispatch, producing 34.39 million metric tonnes of coal, fulfilling 13% of NTPC’s total coal requirement. Jain outlined the company’s goal of meeting 15% of NTPC’s coal needs in the current fiscal and its long-term aspiration of producing over 50 million metric tonnes annually, setting sights on becoming a 100+ million metric tonne coal producer.
Safety remains paramount at NTPC Mining, with notable achievements including the DGMS Mines Safety Award-2024 for Pakri Barwadih Mines and five-star safety ratings for Dulanga and Talaipalli Mines. The company also achieved record-breaking production levels, with a peak monthly output of 3.76 MMT in June 2024 and a single-day dispatch of 1.37 MMT in September 2024.
Beyond energy, NTPC is making meaningful impacts in the lives of local communities through its CSR initiatives. The company has enabled skill development training for 80 project-affected persons (PAPs) from Coal Mining Projects, in partnership with CIPET, Ranchi. To mark this special day, employees and family members were honored for their achievements in various Hindi Pakhwada competitions, adding to the celebration’s spirit.
