The NTPC Northern Region Headquarters in Lucknow celebrated the 76th Republic Day with great enthusiasm on Sunday. The celebration was marked by a flag-hoisting ceremony led by N.S. Rao, Regional Executive Director (North), who paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence.

In his address, Rao reflected on NTPC’s illustrious 49-year journey, emphasizing its pivotal role in India’s development and its upcoming milestone of completing 50 years in 2025. Highlighting NTPC’s vision for a sustainable future, he reiterated the company’s ambitious target of achieving a 130 GW energy capacity by 2032.

Rao spotlighted the unique contributions of NTPC Northern Region, which generates electricity across thermal, hydro, and solar sectors. Over the past year, the region achieved remarkable milestones, including the generation of 101.15 billion units of electricity, accounting for 33.97% of NTPC’s total output. Rihand, Singrauli, and Vindhyachal power plants secured the 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions, respectively, in NTPC’s thermal Plant Load Factor (PLF) rankings. The Northern Region contributed 7.35% to India’s total power generation as of January 20, 2025, while Vindhyachal Unit 3 set a record by operating continuously for 644 days.

Reaffirming NTPC’s commitment to safety and environmental stewardship, Rao highlighted initiatives such as achieving over 84% ash utilization, with 100% utilization at Dadri and 90% at Singrauli and Rihand power stations. The company’s extensive afforestation drive saw the plantation of over 3 lakh saplings in 2024-25.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, NTPC showcased its dedication to community welfare. The welfare wing, Uttara Club, distributed essential food items, 50 pairs of shoes, hygiene kits, and winter garments to underprivileged children. This apart, malnutrition and hygiene kits were provided to girl students at the Government Primary School in Gulam Hussain Purwa, Lucknow.

The celebration concluded with the release of tri-color balloons, symbolizing unity and pride in the nation.
