Paradip, October 7, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) successfully conducted a high-level emergency mock drill on Friday, simulating an ammonia safety valve leak from the ammonia supply line. The drill, organized under the supervision of officials from the Factories and Boilers department, was aimed at bolstering the plant’s emergency response and preparedness capabilities.

The exercise attracted participation from safety and fire officials across prominent organizations, including Kujang Fire Station, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Paradip Port, and leading industries like IFFCO, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, Essar Power, ArcelorMittal Steel, and Adani Wilmar, who attended as observers.

Commending the team’s efforts, Manoj Panda, Deputy Director (Factories & Boilers) from the Cuttack Zonal Office, lauded PPL’s exceptional coordination and teamwork in demonstrating effective emergency rescue strategies. “The dedication and precision exhibited by PPL in handling this simulated emergency scenario are commendable and set a benchmark for industrial safety practices,” he said.

Chandra Sekhar Behera, Assistant Director (Factories & Boilers), echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the critical role such drills play in ensuring preparedness for real-life emergencies. He extended his gratitude to the industries and organizations that contributed their support and expertise to the exercise.

Led by Chief Manufacturing Officer & Unit Head, Palanisamy Velusamy, the PPL team showcased a robust emergency action plan, effectively simulating the protocols necessary to address an ammonia leak. Their swift response highlighted the company’s commitment to safeguarding not only its employees but also the surrounding communities.

The drill garnered praise from local stakeholders, including sarpanches and NGO representatives from neighboring villages, who applauded PPL for raising safety awareness and engaging the local population in preparedness initiatives.

Nihar Kanti Rout, Joint General Manager (Fire & Safety) at PPL, coordinated the drill, ensuring that senior officials from both PPL and neighboring industries closely monitored the proceedings, reinforcing a collective approach to safety and disaster management.

This successful mock drill underscores PPL’s proactive stance on safety and its commitment to continuous improvement in emergency preparedness, safeguarding the well-being of employees and the surrounding community.
