Paradip, October 22, 2024 (TBB Bureau): As Cyclone ‘Dana’ approaches, Paradip Port is implementing extensive safety preparations to ensure the security of maritime operations and personnel. A directive has been issued for all cargo transportation and loading activities to be completed by the evening of October 23.
All vessels currently docked at the port are being instructed to expedite their operations, while those at anchorage have been advised to relocate to safer waters.
Key berths, including IFFCO, PPL, KICT, and JSW, have been ordered to clear cargo and reposition ships as a precaution.
In an effort to ensure the safety and well-being of crew members, ships at anchorage are encouraged to stock up on essential food and supplies. Additionally, the port has taken measures to secure all operational machinery and equipment, including lighting systems in restricted areas.
The Coast Guard vessels stationed at the port are also set to move to safer locations in the sea. Post-storm recovery plans are in place, with arrangements for clearing roads and removing fallen trees promptly after the cyclone passes.
To protect cargo from potential rain and wind damage, the Paradip Port Authority has issued clear instructions to safeguard various storage plots. Port Chairman PL Haranadh has emphasized the urgency of these preparations, calling for all departments to finalize their safety measures before the storm’s arrival.
