Paradip Port has been honoured with the prestigious No.1 Sagar Ankalan certificate for its outstanding overall performance in bulk cargo handling in the category of greater than or equal to 5 MMT for FY 2023-24. The award was presented by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, and received by Paradip Port Authority (PPA) Deputy Chairman, Nilabhra Dasgupta, at the Post-Budget Industry Meet in Mumbai recently.

The Sagar Ankalan – Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) for FY 2023-24 marks a significant step toward improving operational efficiency and enhancing India’s global competitiveness in the maritime sector. The initiative aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, driving India toward becoming a maritime powerhouse and a developed nation by 2047.

Congratulating Team PPA, Chairman P.L. Haranadh commended the port’s dedication and stated that this achievement would serve as an inspiration to attain further milestones for the nation’s overall economic growth.

Paradip Port has achieved a historic milestone in cargo throughput, recording 136.25 MMT by February-end, making it the fastest major port in India to achieve this feat despite market challenges such as declining export demand for iron ore and thermal coal. The port is on track to set an all-time cargo handling record for the fiscal year.

Several system improvement measures implemented by the port have contributed to this growth. Coastal thermal coal handling, which constitutes 30 per cent of total cargo volume, recorded a 4.65% growth. Containerized cargo volume surged by an impressive 175.58 per cent, while gypsum & flux volume witnessed a 2.86 per cent year-on-year growth. These achievements reinforce Paradip Port’s position as a leading coastal shipping hub in India. With its commitment to operational excellence and strategic advancements in cargo handling, the port continues to play a vital role in supporting industries and bolstering India’s maritime sector.
