Paradip, December 1, 2024 (TBB Bureau): World AIDS Day was observed with great zeal and commitment at PPA Hospital, Paradip, under the global theme “Take the Right Path: My Health, My Right!”. The theme underscores the critical role of human rights in achieving the 2030 target of eradicating AIDS, advocating for equal access to HIV prevention, treatment, and care while addressing disparities, stigma, and prejudice.
The observance began with a walkathon as part of an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activity, aimed at raising awareness about AIDS among residents of the Port Township. The walkathon commenced at PPA Hospital and culminated at the Officers Club. Paradip Port Authority (PPA) Chairman PL Haranadh administered a pledge to the attendees and flagged off the event.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from doctors, paramedical staff, and Heads of Departments of PPA, the Commandant of CISF and his team, members of NGOs like IRDMS and CASD, volunteers from the Paradip Sakshyarata Samiti, transgender activists, and the general public. Symbolic red ribbons, signifying solidarity in the fight against AIDS, were proudly worn by all participants.
Adding to the efforts, a dedicated screening camp for truckers was organized at Gate No. 3 in collaboration with CASD/IRDMS. A total of 230 individuals underwent HIV testing, with no positive cases detected. The testing kits were supplied by the Odisha State AIDS Control Society (OSACS).
PPA Hospital, in alignment with its Memorandum of Understanding on “Mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS at Major Ports” signed with NACO and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), continues its routine HIV/AIDS screening and awareness initiatives as part of its unwavering commitment to public health.
The event stood as a testament to PPA’s dedication to fostering an inclusive society where health is upheld as a fundamental human right.
