In a remarkable turn of events for both bird watchers and environmentalists, the Paradeep Phosphate Limited (PPL) premises have become a thriving sanctuary for migratory birds. This year’s census, led by DFO Rajnagar, revealed an astounding 42,582 birds of 44 different species making their seasonal stop at the site, a significant increase from the previous year.
The PPL management has celebrated this development as a reflection of their commitment to environmental conservation and maintaining low pollution levels. Kartikeswar Khandei, Range Officer of Kujang, who spearheaded the census, emphasized the importance of preserving the ecological balance in the area. Forest officials have praised PPL’s efforts in creating a conducive habitat for these avian visitors, attributing this success to the dedicated efforts of the company’s workforce.
Senior officials, including Palanisamy Velusamy, Chief Manufacturing Officer & Unit Head, and Sumit Senapati, Chief General Manager – HR & IR, were actively involved during the bird counting process, showcasing the company’s hands-on approach to ecological responsibility. This heartening increase in bird numbers not only underscores PPL’s role as a guardian of biodiversity but also enhances its reputation as a preferred destination for migratory birds.
