New Delhi, October 6, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Punjab National Bank (PNB), one of the nation’s leading public sector banks, has been recognized as Green Ribbon Champions under the category Green Banking Initiative of the Year 2024. This prestigious accolade celebrates PNB’s remarkable efforts in sustainability through its transformative Go Green initiative, led under the project PNB Palaash – Uniting for a Greener Tomorrow.
The award was presented at a grand event in New Delhi by Bollywood actress and sustainability advocate Ms. Gul Panag, alongside Mr. Ajay Shankar, Distinguished Fellow at TERI. The recognition highlights PNB’s commitment to fostering eco-friendly practices and reducing its environmental impact.
The PNB Palaash initiative promotes a variety of green measures aimed at reducing the bank’s carbon footprint. Key actions include large-scale tree planting campaigns, minimizing plastic usage, encouraging recycling efforts, and financing environmentally friendly projects. Notably, over 100,000 PNB employees have pledged to adopt environmentally responsible practices. These efforts have led to the installation of EV charging stations at key branches and offices, significant reductions in paper consumption through digitalization, the introduction of biodegradable materials, and the construction of an eco-friendly data center in Gurugram.
This recognition solidifies PNB’s role as a leader in the banking industry’s journey toward sustainability, ensuring that eco-friendly measures are deeply integrated into the bank’s operations for a greener future.
