Sanjay Kumar Jha has assumed charge as Director (Technical) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), bringing over three decades of extensive experience in the coal industry.
Jha has a strong background in mining operations, strategic planning, and technological advancements. Before this appointment, he served as Area General Manager of Lakhanpur Area (2022-2024) and Basundhara Area (2019-2022), where he played a crucial role in driving operational growth and efficiency.
Recognized for his exceptional leadership, Jha received the Best Area General Manager award in the Mega Project category at the Coal Minister’s Awards (2021-22) and was also honored with the Best Area General Manager award by Coal India Limited for 2022-23.
His contributions to the sector include spearheading mining operations for the integrated Lilari-Belpahar-Lakhanpur project, commissioning the Ib Valley Washery, identifying land for MCL’s 10-megawatt ground-mounted solar plant, and facilitating the self-relocation of Khandsa village for the establishment of the Coal Ammonium Nitrate plant.
