Tata Power, a leading force in India’s energy sector, is at the helm of a transformative journey in Odisha’s power distribution landscape. Through its dynamic joint ventures with the Government of Odisha, Tata Power operates four Discoms — TP Central Odisha Distribution, TP Western Odisha Distribution, TP Southern Odisha Distribution, and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited — serving a massive customer base of over 9 million.

Over the past 3-4 years, Tata Power’s Odisha Discoms have invested a staggering Rs. 4200 crore in expanding and fortifying the state’s power infrastructure. This investment has focused on creating a cyclone-resilient network to ensure reliable electricity delivery across all segments — domestic, industrial, and agricultural. With over 10 lakh new connections added, the company has electrified remote rural areas and bolstered industrial growth, laying a robust foundation for Odisha’s development.

Odisha now enjoys an unprecedented 24×7 power supply, with urban areas receiving an average of 23.68 hours daily and rural areas 21.98 hours, both surpassing national benchmarks. The technological prowess of Tata Power’s Discoms is a cornerstone of this success. Innovations like Centralized and area-specific power system control centres, SCADA, GIS, drone-based surveillance, and smart meter installations have revolutionized operations, enhancing efficiency and reliability.

These advancements have led to a significant reduction in Aggregate Transmission and Distribution (AT&C) losses, now averaging 17.79% in FY24 — a remarkable 11% improvement since privatization. This progress has earned Tata Power’s Discoms national acclaim, with three achieving A+ ratings in the 12th Annual Integrated Rating and Ranking of Power Distribution Utilities (March 2024) and all four earning A ratings for operational reliability in the Consumer Service Ratings of Discoms (CSRD) Report for FY’23.

Beyond infrastructure, Tata Power’s Odisha Discoms are setting new standards in customer service and operational excellence, fostering a skilled workforce and developing local vendors. Their commitment aligns with the government’s vision of Utkarsh Odisha, supporting wide-scale rural electrification and industrial development.

Harnessing Odisha’s vast solar energy potential — over 200 GW — Tata Power is poised to further drive the state’s energy landscape with expertise in floating and rooftop solar installations. This initiative underscores Tata Power’s dedication to sustainable development and customer satisfaction, propelling Odisha towards a greener, more prosperous future and solidifying its status as a key industrial hub in India.
