Tata Power’s skill development initiative equips hundreds of ITI students in Odisha with future-ready skills

BHUBANESWAR, SEPTEMBER 13, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): Tata Power, in collaboration with the Skill Development and Technical Education Department of the Government of Odisha, has launched a significant skill development initiative to empower ITI students across the state. The initiative, part of the ‘Skilled in Odisha’ program, is already making substantial strides in preparing students with future-ready skills.

The program spans multiple ITIs throughout Odisha, benefiting hundreds of students by providing industry-relevant training and practical knowledge in the power sector. This collaboration bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application, thereby enhancing the employability of Odisha’s youth.

The training modules are carefully designed to address both current and future industry needs, with a focus on electrical and soft skills. These modules are aligned with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), ensuring standardized and high-quality training. In the first phase of the program, nearly 2,000 students will receive training, with a special emphasis on electrical safety to advance their understanding of safe and advanced electric installations in the state.

Introductory sessions have been successfully held at ITI Colleges in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Pattamundai, and Balasore. Tata Power’s experienced professionals are leading practical training sessions, providing valuable mentorship and exposing students to industry best practices and cutting-edge technologies. In addition to classroom instruction, students will visit Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms’ state-of-the-art facilities, including the Network Control Centre, Smart Meter Lab, and 33/11 KV Sub-station, where they will gain hands-on experience with daily operations and safety protocols.

Upon completion of the program, students will receive certifications and have the opportunity for placement within Tata Power’s Odisha Discoms. The company is dedicated to helping these young professionals secure careers that meet industry demands or supporting them in pursuing entrepreneurial ventures that contribute to Odisha’s economic growth.

This initiative represents not just a commitment to technical education but also a significant step toward building a more skilled and employable workforce in Odisha, in alignment with the vision of a self-reliant India.

Tata Power is excited to expand this initiative in the coming months and continue contributing to the advancement of technical education and employability in Odisha.
