Mumbai, 12 November 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a significant move to promote sustainable practices and contribute to local communities, Tecnimont Private Limited (TCMPL), a subsidiary of MAIRE’s Integrated Engineering and Construction (E&C) Solutions, has joined hands with Paradeep Municipality and the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka – Surathkal (NITK) to develop a state-of-the-art biogas plant at Paradeep, in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. This initiative is part of TCMPL’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at enhancing waste management and fostering renewable energy solutions.
The biogas plant, which is designed to efficiently convert food and vegetable waste into renewable energy, is a step forward in the deployment of circular economy solutions. Through anaerobic digestion, organic waste will be transformed into biogas, which will be used to power community kitchens, thus helping reduce dependence on traditional fuel sources and promoting sustainable practices within the local community.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the project promises to generate employment opportunities by involving local residents in waste collection and processing activities. It also aims to provide significant educational advantages by offering practical learning experiences for university students. The collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between academia and industry, with students actively participating in real-world projects that promote innovative solutions.
This initiative follows the success of a pilot biogas plant inaugurated in 2021 at the NITK campus. The pilot project has played a crucial role in advancing research on renewable energy while promoting energy self-sufficiency within the campus. It converts food and vegetable waste from hostel blocks and canteens into biogas, thereby contributing to the university’s sustainability goals.
With the new biogas plant in Paradeep, TCMPL, Paradeep Municipality, and NITK are not only setting a benchmark for waste-to-energy projects but are also helping pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future for the local community.
