A major electricity meter tampering racket has been uncovered in Cuttack district, following a decisive action by TPCODL in collaboration with law enforcement agencies. The prime suspect behind the illegal operation was arrested by Athagarh Police on February 2, 2025, and is currently in police custody.
Authorities recovered a specialized toolkit used for tampering with electricity meters, revealing that substantial sums were being charged from consumers for each fraudulent modification. Investigations are underway to identify other members of the racket and take necessary legal action. Meanwhile, suspected cases of meter tampering are being thoroughly inspected.
Electricity theft, a punishable offense under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, not only results in financial losses but also poses serious safety hazards and undermines power reliability. To combat such illegal activities, special teams have been deployed to detect and eliminate power theft while initiating stringent legal measures against offenders.
TPCODL urges citizens to report any instances of electricity theft through WhatsApp at 9437158670, email at [email protected], the MITRA App, or the official TPCODL website.
