Bhubaneswar, June 9, 2024 (TBB Bureau): TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, commemorated World Environment Day and Tata Sustainability Month with a series of initiatives on June 5, 2024. The event, focusing on this year’s theme “Smart Life,” aimed to promote a sustainable lifestyle for the environment.
Arvind Singh, CEO of TPCODL, along with the Senior Leadership Team and other employees, graced the occasion. In his address, Singh underscored the company’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, aligning with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) campaign #GenerationRestoration. He remarked, “Sustainability is at the heart of our operations. We must be vocal for sustainability and create awareness beyond the organization. Educating all employees at the root level about better sustainability practices is crucial.”
In a significant move towards reducing carbon emissions, Singh flagged off 16 electric vehicles (EVs) under the Smart Green initiative. These EVs are expected to cut the company’s carbon footprint by reducing CO2 emissions by 53.8 tonnes per year. An additional 14 EVs are slated to be introduced later this quarter. Singh also highlighted TPCODL’s dedication to sustainability, mentioning the company’s ISO 14001 certification and its efforts to safely dispose of batteries and reduce SF6 gas consumption.
The Senior Leadership Team shared their insights on Tata Sustainability Month 2024, emphasizing the importance of integrating sustainability into every aspect of the company’s operations. The event concluded with a symbolic sapling plantation by the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team at the Corporate Office, reinforcing their commitment to green initiatives.
Additionally, TPCODL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team organized various events to engage the community and promote environmental awareness. Students participated in a Nature Trail in Bhubaneswar, where they learned about biodiversity, and took part in a Seed Ball making session aimed at increasing green cover. Similar plantation activities were also conducted at multiple TPCODL offices and sites.
