TPNODL launches solar initiative under Mission SAURYAN

BHUBANESWAR, AUGUST 31, 2024 (TBB BUREAU):

Tata Power Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has launched Mission SAURYAN, a major initiative focused on solarizing its Corporate Office and Circle Offices to meet their auxiliary energy needs with solar power.

With a total project investment of Rs. 1 crore, the initiative has successfully installed a Rooftop Solar (RTS) system with a capacity of 65 KW at the TPNODL Corporate Office and a 30 KW RTS system at the Circle Office in Balasore. Together, these systems are expected to generate approximately 270,000 kWh of electricity annually. Transitioning to solar energy is anticipated to significantly cut down annual CO2 emissions compared to traditional energy sources like coal or natural gas.

This project marks a notable milestone in TPNODL’s ongoing dedication to sustainable energy and environmental responsibility.

TPNODL CEO Dwijadas Basak, who recently inaugurated the project, expressed his pride in the company’s progress towards a greener future. “Our journey towards sustainability is not just about reducing our carbon footprint but also about setting a benchmark for the adoption of renewable energy in both corporate and rural settings. With each office we solarize, we move closer to a sustainable tomorrow,” he said.

Basak was joined by Chief Operating Officer Nilesh Potphode, Chief Project Officer Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, Chief Contract & Material Management and Vigilance Officer Harish Sharma, General Manager of Solarisation Rajib Kumar Nayak, and Balasore Superintending Engineer Siddharth Shankar Roy.

TPNODL’s commitment to renewable energy is well-established. Previously, under the Biju Gram Jyoti Yojana (BGJY), the company installed solar microgrids and standalone solar systems to electrify 6,036 tribal households in the forests of Similipal and Kolharoida. This initiative greatly improved the quality of life for these communities. Last year, Mission SAURYAN also saw the commissioning of a 6 KW RTS plant for a school in the village of President Droupadi Murmu.

Beyond internal solarization, TPNODL is also focusing on solarizing domestic and agricultural consumers through schemes such as PM Surya Ghar and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyaan (PM KUSUM). The company is conducting awareness and educational sessions for vendors, officials, and consumers to promote widespread adoption of renewable energy.

As TPNODL progresses under Mission SAURYAN, the company reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship, energy efficiency, and sustainable development, setting new standards for the energy sector in India with each step forward.
