The company has intensified its efforts to combat illegal electricity usage, particularly in remote rural areas, to ensure uninterrupted power supply for law-abiding customers.
TPWODL has successfully thwarted the theft of over 280 MW of power to date. During the fiscal year 2021-22, the company received 26,000 complaints about illegal electricity usage, which led to the prevention of 57 megawatts of theft. In the fiscal year 2022-23, TPWODL prevented 80 megawatts of power theft through 27,475 reported cases. Most recently, in the fiscal year 2023-24, the company addressed 40,381 complaints, resulting in the prevention of over 134 megawatts of electricity theft.
To enhance enforcement, TPWODL has deployed trained teams across its section and division offices. These teams conduct raids during late nights and early mornings to effectively combat illegal practices.
The company uses advanced technology, such as data analytics, to gather crucial evidence and apprehend those involved in power theft.
