The Mera Dhaga, Mera Tiranga, Mera Desh campaign, launched on October 31, 2024, by the Flag Foundation of India, has culminated in the creation of a monumental 12×8 ft Indian Tricolour. This unique initiative, in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary and National Unity Day, brought together citizens from across the nation to contribute threads symbolizing their pride and patriotism, celebrating 75 years of the Indian Republic.

The campaign, envisioned to promote national pride and educate citizens about the significance of the Tiranga, invited individuals to weave their collective spirit into the flag. Speaking on the initiative’s significance, Naveen Jindal, President of the Flag Foundation of India, said, “The Indian national flag is more than just a symbol; it is the very essence of who we are as a nation. Every thread woven into the fabric of the Tiranga carries the legacy of our ancestors and the spirit of countless generations who have contributed to the making of India.”

Through an extensive outreach program, both online and offline, the campaign connected with citizens across India. Social media, paired with events like the Kurukshetra Geeta Mahotsav, served as platforms for participation, drawing heartfelt contributions to the dhaga collection drive. By December 25, 2024, the initiative had gathered threads from every corner of the nation, which were then processed into 20 kilograms of unified yarn at a cutting-edge textile recycling facility in Panipat.

Master weavers used this yarn to create the Tiranga, blending India’s diverse textile traditions such as Sambalpuri, Maheshwari, and Pochampally Ikkat. “The journey from thread to flag was not just about weaving fabric; it was about weaving stories — stories of resilience, heritage, and togetherness,” said Shallu Jindal, Vice President of the Flag Foundation of India.

The campaign culminated in the presentation of the monumental flag to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, signifying its national importance. The flag, a living testament to the unity in diversity that defines India, will be hoisted by the President on an official occasion, marking a moment of pride for the nation.

“It is our hope that this Tiranga, crafted with love and dedication, flies higher than ever before, inspiring all Indians to embrace its values and ideals,” Naveen Jindal added.
