Vedanta Aluminium achieves BIS certification for 12-mm wire rods

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 1, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, announced on Thursday that its 12-mm wire rods, manufactured at the Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) facility in Korba, Chhattisgarh, have been certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). These aluminium wire rods, known for their excellent conductivity, lightweight nature, and durability, are primarily used in the electrical and power transmission sectors.

Vedanta Aluminium has a history of being a pioneer in India’s aluminium industry, having achieved BIS certification across its extensive range of aluminium products. This latest certification highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to superior product quality and innovation in the aluminium sector.

In addition to the new BIS certification for 12-mm wire rods, BIS has re-certified six other product categories produced at BALCO: EC Ingots, Alloy Ingots, Primary Ingots, Rolled Sheets, Rolled Conductor Plates, and Rolled Plates for general engineering purposes. With these certifications, Vedanta’s BALCO unit now holds seven BIS certifications covering a total of 17 products, giving the company a significant competitive advantage in the market.

John Slaven, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, emphasized the company’s dedication to quality excellence, stating, “At Vedanta Aluminium, our focus is on consistently delivering top-notch aluminium products that meet the highest standards. These BIS certifications underscore our stringent quality control and advanced production techniques, enabling us to serve diverse industries and global customers with a wide array of products designed to exceed industry benchmarks.”

Aluminium plays a pivotal role in various sectors such as clean energy, electric mobility, green buildings, high-tech manufacturing, and sustainable packaging, which are crucial for a low-carbon future.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is the apex national body responsible for defining quality standards across industries. It employs rigorous assessment methodologies before awarding the BIS Standard Mark, a prestigious symbol of quality on manufactured products. Vedanta Aluminium’s continued pursuit of BIS certifications reinforces its commitment to ensuring quality and reliability in its product offerings. The company is also collaborating with BIS to develop standards for aluminium products and raw materials where appropriate quality benchmarks do not currently exist.

Vedanta’s aluminium products are registered with the London Metal Exchange (LME), attesting to their international quality standards. The company’s proactive approach in seeking BIS certifications further enhances customer confidence in the quality of aluminium sourced from India’s foremost authority on quality standards. Vedanta Aluminium achieves this through the deployment of cutting-edge metal manufacturing technologies, sophisticated processes, extensive R&D efforts, and collaborations with emerging-tech startups and global experts. These efforts continue to position Vedanta as a preferred supplier to customers in nearly 60 countries.
