Jharsuguda, August 16, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a vibrant celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s premier aluminium producer, honoured the nation’s rich legacy and celebrated its continued journey towards a prosperous future. The event, held at Vedanta’s operations in Jharsuguda on Thursday, was a testament to the company’s deep-rooted commitment to national progress, sustainability, and community welfare.
Sunil Gupta, COO of Vedanta Aluminium and CEO of Vedanta Jharsuguda, led the celebrations with the unfurling of the national flag, a moment steeped in patriotism and reverence. As the tricolour fluttered against the sky, it symbolized not just the freedom hard-won by the nation’s forebears but also the responsibility to continue their legacy through meaningful contributions to the country’s development.
A key highlight of the day was the inauguration of a new Driver Management Centre at Banjari, a facility that stands as a beacon of Vedanta’s commitment to the welfare of those who form the backbone of its logistics operations—the commercial vehicle drivers. This modern centre, equipped with state-of-the-art amenities such as hygienic washrooms, a spacious canteen, and comfortable rest rooms, is designed to cater to the needs of nearly 400 drivers daily. It’s more than just a resting place; it’s a sanctuary for rejuvenation and professional growth, offering specialized training programs on fleet management and safety protocols to enhance drivers’ skills and ensure their well-being.
Gupta emphasized the significance of this initiative, noting that the Driver Management Centre represents a step forward in recognizing and supporting the crucial role drivers play in the company’s operations. “At Vedanta, we believe that our drivers are integral to our success, and this facility is our way of ensuring they are cared for and empowered,” he said. The centre is a reflection of Vedanta’s broader mission—to not only meet the immediate needs of its workforce but to invest in their future, fostering growth and resilience in every individual connected to its operations.
The Independence Day celebrations were further enriched by the culmination of Security Week 2024, an initiative themed ‘Viksit Bharat,’ which focused on promoting safety and security across all levels of the company. The weeklong program featured a variety of engaging and impactful sessions, including ‘Mann ki Baat, Sarathi Ke Sath’ for fleet drivers, ‘Nanhe Fariste’ for children on self-defense, and ‘Spreading Smiles,’ a community outreach event at Brundamal School. These activities highlighted Vedanta’s commitment to building a secure, inclusive, and compassionate society.
Reflecting on the occasion, Gupta remarked, “As we celebrate 78 years of independence, we are reminded of the values of freedom, unity, and responsibility that have shaped our nation. Vedanta Aluminium is dedicated to playing a pivotal role in India’s journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat,’ driven by innovation, excellence, and sustainable development.”
