On the occasion of Utkal Diwas, Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Odisha for their longstanding partnership and reflected on the incredible transformation of Kalahandi, a region that has seen remarkable progress in recent years.
In an emotional address, Agarwal shared a cherished memory, recalling a pivotal moment when former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik entrusted him with a significant challenge. “I feel immense pride when I recall how Biju Babu personally told me that his life aim was to bring Kalahandi, one of the most backward areas, into the mainstream. By Lord Jagannathan’s grace, I was given the strength to take on this challenge, and we set up the world’s largest alumina factory there,” Agarwal said, reflecting on the vision that led to Kalahandi’s metamorphosis.
The Vedanta Chairman also took a moment to praise Odisha’s vast potential, emphasizing the state’s rich natural resources, vibrant culture, and the global achievements of its people. “The world is witnessing Odisha’s rise, from its tourism and religious heritage to its abundant natural wealth. This state and its people are destined for greatness,” he remarked, acknowledging the immense progress Odisha has made in various sectors, including tourism, industry, and culture.
Agarwal also recognized the tireless leadership of Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mohan Majhi, commending his efforts to propel the state towards new heights. “Coming from a tribal region, CM Majhi’s tireless efforts will take Odisha to new heights,” he affirmed, underscoring the Chief Minister’s commitment to the state’s continued growth and development.
