Bhubaneswar, December 19, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In an electrifying prelude to the much-awaited Hockey India League (HIL) comeback, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, Odisha’s franchise team, unveiled their official jersey and anthem in a grand event held in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The event was attended by Odisha’s Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Suryabanshi Suraj, Principal Secretary of the Sports and Youth Services Department, Bhaskar Sarma, and Vedanta Aluminium COO and Kalinga Lancers Director Sunil Gupta, along with the Indian players representing the team in the upcoming league.
The new jerseys, a visual masterpiece, pay tribute to Odisha’s illustrious cultural heritage while incorporating contemporary elements that symbolize progress and innovation. The home jersey features an exquisite blend of blue and green, signifying the state’s deep ties to nature and development. The away jersey retains its vibrant orange and white palette, reflecting energy and purity. Intricate designs on the jerseys depict Odisha’s iconic cultural symbols, with the Konark Wheel taking center stage — a tribute to the globally renowned Sun Temple.
Additional details showcase the state’s diverse traditions, including Chhau dance motifs from North Odisha, Ghumra dance patterns from the South, and Sambalpuri designs from Western Odisha. Modern touches, like a leafy wave at the bottom symbolizing dynamism, and wave patterns inspired by the Mahanadi River — Odisha’s lifeline — add a contemporary flair to the design. The presence of Jeet, the team’s mascot inspired by Odisha’s state bird, the Indian Roller (Blue Jay), adds a final touch of local pride.
Adding to the fervour, the team unveiled their new anthem, titled “Jazba Jeet Ka.” This motivational composition, sung by Bollywood’s Rituraj Mohanty, an Odia talent, encapsulates the Lancers’ spirit of resilience, hard work, and triumph. Produced by Campaign Scout India, the anthem aims to ignite enthusiasm among players and fans alike as the team prepares for its campaign.
Sunil Gupta, Director of Kalinga Lancers, expressed his pride in the franchise’s role in promoting hockey in Odisha. “Hockey holds a special place in Odisha, and being part of a franchise that represents the state’s deep-rooted passion for the sport is a great honour,” he said. “The jersey beautifully embodies Odisha’s rich history, vibrant culture, and the spirit of progress. We are excited to take the field and contribute to the growth of hockey in India,” added Gupta.
With the HIL set to commence on December 28, the Vedanta Kalinga Lancers are gearing up to proudly represent Odisha on the national stage.
