Mumbai, October 3, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a significant boost to the nationwide Jan Andolan for Swachhata, more than 75,000 volunteers joined Reliance’s WeCare4Swachhata campaign across 4,100 locations, making a strong statement for a cleaner and greener India. Organized during the Government of India’s Swachhata Hi Seva fortnight, the campaign saw active participation from Reliance employees, their families, and local communities. Together, they undertook cleanliness drives, tree planting initiatives, awareness activities in schools, and other efforts to drive positive change across the nation.
Speaking about the initiative, Jagannatha Kumar, CEO of Reliance Foundation, said, “For Reliance, Swachh Bharat is more than a mission; it’s an opportunity for every member of our ecosystem—whether in rural or urban India—to contribute to the well-being of our environment. The WeCare4Swachhata campaign this year marks a decade of our involvement in the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative by the Government of India. With ‘We Care’ embedded in the Reliance ecosystem, our aim is to strengthen the vision of a cleaner and greener India. Volunteerism plays a crucial role in cleanliness, and we aimed to galvanize communities to join and take ownership of the movement.”
From September 17 to October 2, cleanliness drives were conducted in residential areas, schools, marketplaces, beaches, places of worship, railway stations, bus stands, historical monuments, roads, parks, and other public spaces.
Inspired by over 59,000 Reliance employees, nearly 16,000 community members and civil society organizations working with Reliance Foundation also participated in cleaning common spaces and water bodies, promoting reuse and recycling, and tree care. Additionally, more than 30,000 children took part in awareness quizzes, painting, essay competitions, and other activities organized by Reliance volunteers. In continued efforts to enhance green cover for climate resilience, Reliance Foundation planted over 17,000 saplings across Odisha, Assam, Gujarat, and West Bengal.
Reliance employees also took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean and to inspire others to join the movement, helping to sustain the momentum generated by the campaign. Various Reliance businesses, including Reliance Industries Limited, Reliance Retail, Reliance Jio, along with entities such as Reliance Foundation Schools and Jio Institute, actively contributed to this large-scale initiative in response to the government’s call for ‘Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata’, making it a true Jan Andolan for the nation.
