In a significant step toward international skill development and capacity building, Centurion University on Wednesday launched the Zimbabwe Government-sponsored training program for Zimbabwean Government Officers. This initiative, a milestone in India-Zimbabwe cooperation, aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of South-South collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The high-level Zimbabwean delegation attending the event comprised senior officials from the Presidential and National Scholarships Department in the Office of the President and Cabinet. Notable dignitaries included Executive Director Raymond Machingura, Chief Director Dr. W. Kachere, Director P. Manyange, Head of Chancery P. Hobwani, CMED Managing Director Davison Mhaka, and General Manager Stephen Mavura.
Brahma Kumar, India’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, played a crucial role in fostering this collaboration. His presence at both the send-off ceremony in Zimbabwe and the training launch at Centurion University underscores India’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its ties with Africa.
Currently, 71 mid-career Zimbabwean Government Officers are undergoing training at Centurion University’s Jatni Campus. Over the next two years, the program aims to equip 2,000 officers with industry-relevant competencies in sectors such as power, electric vehicles, automotive, apparel and textiles, and agriculture. This initiative is poised to enhance Zimbabwe’s skilled workforce, fostering sustainable economic growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, Odisha’s Minister for Industries, Skill Development, and Technical Education, Sampad Chandra Swain, highlighted the collaboration’s impact: “Centurion University’s commitment to skill development and experiential learning is exemplary. This initiative is not just about training individuals but about nurturing a workforce that will drive Zimbabwe’s industries toward innovation and self-reliance.”
Centurion University’s leadership reaffirmed its dedication to the partnership, with Monalisha Ghosh, Director of International Relations and Government Partnerships, emphasizing India’s longstanding commitment to capacity building in Africa. “This collaboration with Centurion University is a testament to our shared vision for sustainable growth and skill enhancement,” she stated.
The event saw the participation of Centurion University President Professor Mukti Kanta Mishra, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Supriya Pattanayak, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ajay Nayak, among other dignitaries.
Recognized as the No.1 Skill University by Outlook-ICARE, Centurion University is renowned for its industry-driven, hands-on training approach. Through simulation-based learning and strategic industry collaborations, the university ensures that trainees gain real-world expertise. The Zimbabwean officers’ training program is designed to provide sector-specific skills, leadership development, and exposure to India’s best vocational education and entrepreneurship practices.
This landmark event marks the beginning of a long-term journey of skill enhancement and innovation-driven collaboration between India and Zimbabwe, paving the way for stronger bilateral ties and socio-economic progress in both nations.
