Bhubaneswar, November 30, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) achieved a historic milestone on Saturday by organizing its inaugural ‘Health National Conclave.’ The event united eminent experts from India and abroad to deliberate on critical issues shaping the future of medicine and healthcare in the country.
The conclave, envisioned by KIIT-KISS-KIMS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, is the first such initiative by a healthcare institution in Odisha. A significant highlight was Dr. Samanta’s ambitious announcement of plans to establish 20 corporate-style hospitals across Odisha, each equipped with 100 beds, slated to be operational by this time next year.
Prominent speakers included Prof. Dr. D Nageswar Reddy of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad; Prof. V Mohan of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, Chennai; Prof. Vinod Paul of NITI Aayog; and Prof. Ved Prakash Mishra of Krishna Viswa Vidyapith, among others. Their discussions spanned diverse topics, such as healthcare entrepreneurship ethics, affordable medical innovations, and the growing challenge of diabetes.
Addressing the inaugural session, Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Reddy commended KISS’s remarkable efforts in tribal welfare and described the conclave as a comprehensive platform that even encompassed spirituality in its agenda.
Prof. V. Mohan lauded Dr. Samanta’s distinctive approach to blending entrepreneurship with ethical healthcare. “If the intention is pure, the means will follow,” he remarked, emphasizing the transformative potential of such initiatives.
Dr. Subrat Acharya, KIIT Pro-Chancellor and renowned gastroenterologist, highlighted KIMS’s achievements, noting its impressive 15th rank in the NIRF rankings and its dedication to excellence in medical education and services.
The conclave also featured thought-provoking discussions, including sessions on making healthcare innovations affordable and the ethical dynamics of money in medicine. KIMS Principal Dr. R.C. Das emphasized the conclave’s unique focus on addressing the broader healthcare ecosystem in India.
Dr. Samanta, in his address, underscored the vital role of health in life. “Even with abundant wealth, one cannot enjoy life without good health,” he remarked, reiterating KIMS’s commitment to enhancing healthcare outcomes for all.
Dr. Yogesh Kumar Chawla, Chairman of Academics and Professor Emeritus at KIMS, praised the institution’s growth, stating, “I have witnessed KIMS’s phenomenal progress. It now rivals AIIMS and other esteemed institutions. I am proud to be part of its training programs.”
Pro-Vice Chancellor of the School of Medicine Dr. C.B.K. Mohanty echoed these sentiments. “Our founder started with limited resources, but KIMS has grown into a colossal institution. This conclave is a testament to his visionary leadership,” he said.
The inaugural conclave served as a platform for insightful dialogue, reinforcing KIMS’s position as a leader in shaping India’s healthcare future.
