Bhubaneswar, November 12, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a major advancement in healthcare technology, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) has installed Odisha’s first-ever 3D Digital Mammography Machine, equipped with an integrated Stereotactic Biopsy System. The state-of-the-art technology was officially unveiled by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, with the goal of revolutionizing breast cancer diagnosis and treatment across the region.
This cutting-edge system, designed to ensure early and accurate detection of breast cancer, is known for its high-resolution imaging capabilities and minimal radiation exposure. By using dual-mode tomosynthesis, the machine captures images of breast tissue from multiple angles, offering a detailed three-dimensional view that enhances diagnostic precision. A key feature of the machine is its flat-panel detector, which enables quick and low-dose examinations, ensuring reduced radiation exposure for patients.
The 3D Mammography Machine also boasts advanced Image-based Spectrum Conversion (ISC) technology, which improves image contrast, making it particularly beneficial for patients with denser breast tissue. This ensures more accurate screenings, minimizing the risk of missed diagnoses and allowing clinicians to better assess the condition of the breast tissue. Furthermore, the system utilizes tomosynthesis iterative super-resolution (ISR) to further optimize image quality while reducing the X-ray dose required for each examination.
One of the standout innovations of this system is its Intelligent Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) technology, which adjusts the X-ray dose based on the individual patient’s breast type. This customization not only enhances diagnostic accuracy but also contributes to a safer, more comfortable experience for patients. Additionally, the Breast Density Measurement Software included in the machine provides clinicians with valuable data, allowing for better risk assessments and follow-up care.
Dr. Achyuta Samanta expressed his pride in the installation of the advanced mammography system, emphasizing its potential to save lives by enabling earlier detection and more effective treatment of breast cancer. He noted that this milestone is a testament to KIMS’ commitment to offering the latest medical technologies and providing world-class care to the people of Odisha.
With this new machine, KIMS is poised to play a pivotal role in improving breast cancer diagnosis in the state, offering hope for better outcomes and improved quality of life for patients across the region.
