White Coat ceremony welcomes new MBBS and BDS batch at KIMS

Bhubaneswar, November 8, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) held a prestigious White Coat and Oath-Taking Ceremony to welcome its newest cohort of MBBS and BDS students, marking an essential rite of passage into the medical field. This ceremonial initiation, symbolizing the start of a lifelong commitment to medical ethics and compassionate care, was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including KIIT and KISS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. CBK Mohanty, Dean and Principal Prof. (Dr.) R.C. Das, KIMS Medical Superintendent Dr. M.R. Behera, Vice Principal Prof. (Dr.) Lalatendu Mohanty, and the Principal of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, Dr. Ashwini Kar.

Prof. CBK Mohanty inspired the aspiring doctors with advice to leverage KIMS’s extensive academic resources fully. “The MBBS curriculum is rigorous and demands lifelong learning. You will need to keep reading and evolving to stay at the forefront of this field,” he remarked. Highlighting the long-term benefits of dedication, he added, “The effort you invest in these five years will reward you for the next fifty. Your achievements will be our greatest reward.”

In his address, Dr. Samanta urged students to make the most of their five-year journey at KIMS, one of India’s top-ranked medical institutions. He highlighted the institute’s strengths, including its 2600-bed hospital, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and cutting-edge simulation labs, considered among the best in the country. “KIMS is home to some of the finest doctors, including Padma awardees, who will guide you through your journey,” he said, underscoring the unique opportunities awaiting the new batch.

The White Coat Ceremony followed the recent Cadaveric Oath Ceremony, held on October 29 by the Department of Human Anatomy for the MBBS batch of 2024-25. Prof. (Dr.) Prajna Paramita Samanta, Head of the Anatomy Department, spoke to the students on the profound significance of cadaveric dissection, which not only serves as the cornerstone of their medical training but also instills deep respect for those who contribute to medical education through their generous donations.

With this White Coat Ceremony, KIMS has ushered in a new generation of medical students, ready to embrace the challenges and responsibilities of healthcare with commitment, compassion, and integrity.
