Bhuvnesh Kumar, a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1995 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre, assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Wednesday.
With a stellar academic and professional track record, Kumar brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, promising to steer UIDAI toward greater achievements.
A graduate and gold medallist from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, Kumar has held several high-ranking positions at both the central and state levels. His appointment as UIDAI CEO marks yet another milestone in his illustrious career. Alongside this role, he continues to serve as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, reinforcing his pivotal role in shaping the country’s digital ecosystem.
Prior to this, Kumar served as Joint Secretary in MeitY, where he was instrumental in driving key initiatives. In his cadre state of Uttar Pradesh, he held several significant positions, including Principal Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries. His tenure also encompassed roles as Secretary Finance, Secretary Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), and Secretary Technical Education. He has also served as Divisional Commissioner of the Department of Land Revenue, showcasing his versatility across diverse administrative domains.
Kumar’s portfolio in Uttar Pradesh extended to leadership roles in Sports and Youth Welfare, Planning, and Vocational Education, further underlining his multifaceted contributions to governance and development.
As the CEO of UIDAI, Kumar is expected to leverage his vast experience to enhance the efficiency and outreach of Aadhaar, India’s flagship biometric identification system. His leadership is anticipated to bolster UIDAI’s efforts in streamlining governance, fostering digital inclusion, and empowering citizens.
