DRDO successfully completes field evaluation of indigenous Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile System

NEW DELHI, APRIL 14, 2024 (TBB BUREAU):  In a significant stride towards bolstering India’s defense capabilities, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a milestone with the successful field evaluation of the Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Weapon System. Designed and developed indigenously, the MPATGM system underwent rigorous testing in various flight configurations, demonstrating its technological prowess and superiority.

The comprehensive system comprises the MPATGM, Launcher, Target Acquisition System, and the Fire Control Unit, each meticulously engineered to meet the exacting standards of the Indian Army’s General Staff Qualitative Requirements.

A series of missile firing trials, aimed at validating the system’s operational capabilities, have yielded resounding success. Notably, the Warhead Flight Trials conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan on April 13, 2024, showcased exceptional performance in both missile and warhead functionality.

The completion of penetration trials for the Tandem Warhead System marks a pivotal achievement, affirming the MPATGM’s capability to effectively neutralize modern armor-protected Main Battle Tanks. Equipped with advanced features such as day/night and top attack capability, the MPATGM system boasts a dual-mode seeker functionality, enhancing its effectiveness in tank warfare scenarios.

With technology development and successful demonstration now concluded, the MPATGM system is poised for Final User Evaluation Trials, paving the way for its induction into the Indian Army.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the efforts of DRDO and the Indian Army, hailing the successful trials as a significant stride towards achieving self-reliance in advanced technology-based defense systems. Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, Dr. Samir V Kamat, extended his congratulations to the teams involved in the trials, acknowledging their dedication and expertise in advancing India’s defense capabilities.
