Govt e-marketplace learning management system now available in 12 Indian languages

New Delhi, July 19, 2024 (TBB Bureau):  The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) Learning Management System (LMS) has been upgraded to include six more official languages, bringing the total to 12. This enhancement, announced by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Friday, aims to make the platform more accessible and user-friendly.

The e-Learning training courses are now offered in Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. This expansion is designed to reach a broader audience. The updated interface includes dedicated libraries and a progress tracking dashboard to enhance the user experience.

“Given the focus on using GeM for procurement by all government bodies, it was crucial to provide adequate learning resources to stakeholders. This will help them understand the policies, features, and navigate the portal more effectively. The new interactive and multilingual LMS, available in 12 official languages, aligns with this goal,” said Prashant Kumar Singh, CEO of GeM.

The LMS includes a four-level Buyer Certification program, allowing users to progress through different learning stages and earn valuable certifications. The platform also offers the flexibility for Buyers and Sellers to select their learning paths based on topics or certification levels, which improves efficiency.

Singh further said, “The introduction of a multilingual learning tool enhances the understanding of complex public procurement processes, which will likely increase the adoption of the GeM portal among State and Local Government Buyers and last-mile sellers across India. Since its launch four months ago, the GeM LMS has seen a 32-fold increase in user registrations, with over 4,000 users enrolled in various courses and more than 600 Buyer certificates issued.”

In the first quarter of the current financial year (April-June 2024-25), the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) achieved a gross merchandise value of Rs 1.25 lakh crore, marking a 136% growth compared to Rs 52,670 crore in the same period last year. The transactions conducted through the e-marketplace have contributed to greater transparency in large purchases and helped reduce corruption.
