The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) is set to organize a Stakeholders Meet for the Implementation of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS 2023), scheduled to take place tomorrow.
The event aims to accelerate the conversion of MoUs signed at GMIS 2023 into actionable plans, thereby advancing India’s ambitious maritime vision. Notable dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministers of State in MoPSW Shripad Y. Naik and Shantanu Thakur.
The upcoming Stakeholders Meet seeks to capitalize on the momentum generated at GMIS 2023 by facilitating the implementation of the signed MoUs. It will provide a platform for open discussion, inviting input from stakeholders to address challenges and identify necessary support or policy interventions crucial for realizing the objectives outlined in the MoUs.
Additionally, the event will witness the launch of significant initiatives, including the Saagar Aankalan Guidelines, GMIS Report, and M. Tech in Dredging Technology at IIT Chennai.
GMIS 2023 emerged as a landmark maritime summit, attracting a record-breaking investment commitment of ₹10 lakh crores over the three-day event. The success of GMIS 2023 was underscored by the signing of 360 MoUs, with an investment commitment of ₹8.35 lakh crores, and the announcement of additional investible projects worth ₹1.68 lakh crores. These MoUs encompass a wide array of sectors within the maritime industry, encompassing port development, modernization, green hydrogen, ammonia, port-led development, cruise sector, business and commerce, shipbuilding, and knowledge sharing.
The “Sagar Aankalan” Guidelines for National Benchmarking of Indian Ports Performance, to be launched during the event, aim to standardize and improve the performance and efficiency of Indian seaports. The guidelines will focus on logistics performance and efficiency mapping and benchmarking, harmonization of standards with global benchmarks, and enhancing competitiveness, efficiency, and overall performance of the port sector with a focus on productivity, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
