Renewable Energy Secretary highlights India’s leadership in Green Hydrogen at World Summit

ROTTERDAM, MAY 16, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): Addressing the prestigious World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on May 15, 2024, Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India,Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, showcased India’s strategic vision and capabilities in renewable energy and green hydrogen production.

Highlighting India’s comprehensive approach, Secretary Bhalla emphasized the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s pivotal role, encompassing pilot projects, research and development (R&D) initiatives, and skill development programs. He underlined the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration across the hydrogen value chain.

Furthermore, Secretary Bhalla reiterated India’s position as a global leader in renewable energy affordability, citing the nation’s competitive pricing and integrated grid infrastructure as key advantages. He emphasized India’s ambition to emerge as a leading exporter of green hydrogen, asserting its determination to play a pivotal role in the global hydrogen economy.

Confident in India’s capability to meet production demands, Secretary Bhalla showcased the nation’s robust renewable energy deployment strategy outlined in its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). With significant progress in tender awards and infrastructure development, India is poised to achieve its ambitious targets and shape the global hydrogen economy.

 

The National Green Hydrogen Mission, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, aims to establish 5 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030. Significant strides have been made, with tenders awarded for incentives and electrolyser manufacturing capacity, reinforcing India’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
