Achyuta Samanta honoured with FIVB Grand Cross Award

Bhubaneswar, November 17, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, has been conferred with the prestigious FIVB Grand Cross Award, the highest honour from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). He received the award during the 39th FIVB World Congress, a three-day event held in Porto, Portugal, from November 15 to 17.

This recognition acknowledges Dr. Samanta’s outstanding contributions to the promotion and development of sports, particularly volleyball. The award was presented by FIVB President Dr. Ary Graca in a grand ceremony attended by representatives and presidents of volleyball associations from 222 countries.

Earlier, during a visit to KIIT and KISS, Dr. Graca had announced that Dr. Samanta would be honoured with the FIVB Grand Cross Award for his exceptional efforts in advancing sports. Following this announcement, Dr. Samanta was specially invited to attend the World Congress, where he was formally recognised for his achievements.

The Grand Cross Award is the FIVB’s highest distinction, presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of volleyball and sports in general. During the ceremony, representatives from 222 countries acknowledged Dr. Samanta’s remarkable achievements in both sports and education.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Samanta expressed deep gratitude, saying, “I am humbled to receive this highest honour from FIVB. I dedicate this award to Lord Jagannath, whose blessings have been instrumental in my journey. This recognition also belongs to all sports enthusiasts and athletes of India, especially those from Odisha, as well as the entire KIIT and KISS community.”

This prestigious award further underscores Dr. Samanta’s significant impact in promoting sports and nurturing talent, both nationally and globally.
