Aditya Aluminium, Lapanga which has been actively working on improving the nutrition intake amongst women, adolescent girls and children under its Project Suposhan, observed World Breastfeeding Week-2022 with the theme “Step up: Support and Educate” in six gram panchayats of Rengali Block from August 1.
On each day of the week, an event was organized in six different Anganwadi centers — Ludhapali AWC, Katarbaga AWC, Lahamani AWC, Dhorropani AWC, Gumkarma AWC and Lapanga AWC. As many as 244 pregnant women and lactating mothers along with their family members participated in the awareness session which was followed by quiz competition to encourage involvement and awareness level. The event aimed at sensitizing women on benefits of breastfeeding for both the mother and the child.
Resource persons and guests spoke about the importance of family support required for breastfeeding. The session had elaborate discussion on elimination of myths and taboos from the society, and promotion of breastfeeding as a matter of culture and pride. The first breast milk rich in cholesterol is considered a rich source for boosting child’s immunity and saves mortality of infants from diseases like diarrhoea.
The main event was organized at Gumkarma Anganwadi Centre. A quiz competition was also conducted and winners were awarded with Horlicks and Multivitamins. The chief guest of the program emphasized that mothers should be continually empowered and an environment should be provided for comfortable breastfeeding, which would help achieve the targets of the health indicators.
The event was graced by Aditya Aluminium Assistant General Manager (CSR & RR) Sweta Upadhyay, Assistant Manager (CSR & RR) Manoranjan Behera, Dr. Jaspreet of Aditya Healthcare Centre; Laida CHC PHEO Jadumani Ganik, and other employees of Aditya Aluminium.
Aditya Aluminium expressed its thankfulness to ICDS and CHC Laida who were the program partners, and ASHA ANM Anganwadi workers for sensitising women on various issues like institutional delivery, breastfeeding, immunization etc.
World Breast Feeding Week Campaign is celebrated from 1st to 7th August every year. Since 1992, the Week is promoted to increase awareness and educate people on benefits of breastfeeding. With change in lifestyle, eating habits and mental stress many new mothers are not able to feed their children with breast milk. First breast milk is panacea for the child and helps build immunity and strength for sound physical and mental development.
