Ashok Dandasena of Odisha Police from Bhubaneswar won the 19th edition of the Paradip Marathon in the Men’s category while Susmita Tigga from Sundargarh emerged winner in the Women’s category, here on Wednesday. The event was conducted by the Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad of Paradip Port Authority (PPA) on the occasion of 63rd Port Foundation Day.
Dandasena finished the race in 44 minutes 07.4 seconds,
Rashmi Ranjan Nayak from Bhubaneswar got the second prize with the timing of 44′ 09.0”, and Babul Tudu of Jharkhand got the third prize in this category by clocking 45’ 23.5”.
In the Women’s category, Sandhya Murmu from Balasore won the second prize by completing the distance in 53’ 05.8” while Puja Behera of Balasore, with the timing of 56’ 45.4”, got the third prize.
The 19th Paradip Marathon was flagged off by PPA Chairman PL Haranadh from Hanuman Temple Square in the presence of PPA Deputy Chairman Nilabhra Dasgupta and Local Coast Guard Unit DIG YK Singh.
The marathon culminated at the Gopabandhu Stadium after covering a distance of 14-Km.
A total of 358 competitors – 299 male and 59 female – participated in the run. The PPA Chairman lauded the participants who came from different parts of the country to join the marathon.
International para athlete Jayanti Behera Jayanti Behera was felicitated by the PPA Chairman on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Haranadh highlighted how PPA has conducted its own marathon since 1967 resulting in year to year growth in cargo traffic at a slow and steady pace. In this fiscal the Port is all set to create history by becoming No.1 port among Indian Major Ports in cargo throughput. The port would continue its marathon to achieve better accomplishment in the coming days, said the PPA Chairman while congratulating the employees, their family members, importers, exporters, unions, PPP operators and other stakeholders for their contribution.
